My fiance(未婚夫）and I were excited about shopping for our first home.But our funds were limited,and none of the houses in our price range seemed satisfactory.

We finally did and it was love at first sight:It was Our Home,small and charming, overlooking a quiet lake.Walking through the rooms and talking with the owners,a nice elderly couple,we felt the warmth and happiness of the marriage within that home.As perfect as it was,the price remained too high for us.But every day,we would sit by the lake, looking at the house and dreaming of what it would be like to live there.

After we made our final offer we went to the owners' home where the other buyer came to visit the owners too. He begged the owners to sell it to him because the price he offered was much higher than ours. The owner asked the buyer, "why do you want this house?" The buyer answered, "It is near the city, so I want to buy it for investment. I can rent it to earn money." The owner thought for a while and then looked at him and said, "I'm sorry, sir. I can't sell my house to you, because I am looking for someone who truly loves my house, not just for money."

The owner looked at us and said, "I want to sell my house to you!" Then he explained why. He'd seen us sitting by the lake all those times; he knew how much we loved the place and that we'd appreciate the years of work they had put into their home; he realized he would take a loss by selling it to us, but it was worthwhile; we were the people they wanted to live there.He told us to consider the difference in the price "an early wedding present." That's how we found our home and how I learned that when people are kind they are not strangers, only friends we haven't yet met.
